Our goal as skin researchers is to make ‘healthy’ collagen. There are a variety of nutrients which support the body to make skin collagen from the collagen we consume in the form of protein from our diet.
When you eat or drink collagen from any protein source it just breaks down into the basic building blocks that the body needs called “amino acids”. These components need to be reassembled to supply the body structures including muscles, joints and skin. For the amino acids to be reassembled into collagen, the body uses co factor vitamins, in particular vitamins A and C. These vitamins help us to make ‘healthy’ collagen from amino acids.
